My Story

Hello.
My name is Chris Sulej and I’m an independent professional celebrant, providing funeral celebrancy services to families, organisations and individuals in Cheshire and the surrounding area.

Over the years I have experienced great loss from the passing of close family, friends and colleagues such that in that time, I have come to intimately understand the grieving process that families and individuals go through and the steps that must be taken to come to terms with those losses and then carry on with our lives.

In my own early years, I volunteered as a Youth worker in my local community, helping young people to find their place in society and assisting them to overcome some of the everyday challenges of growing up. At the same time, I also provided comfort and support to those young people who lost close family and friends through a variety of tragic circumstances that often circles around poorer communities.

Later in life I experienced the personal loss of a parent, grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends and colleagues, which gave me an even deeper understanding of how such loss can affect a family and how difficult it is to try and return to a regular life without such people in our lives anymore.

In my working life I spent many years as a public speaker, presenting often complex subjects in a clear and concise manner for the understanding and comprehension of a more general audience. In addition, my career has also required me to prepare a wide selection of written material that often required a creative writing approach. All of which I believe has given me the necessary skills to make me a confident and articulate speaker and presenter.

Having recently retired I realised that I wanted to do something that would be of real benefit in my community, and I believe that taking on the role of a funeral celebrant will allow me to do that. Therefore, it was important to me that I undertook the very best training possible for my newly chosen role and so I enrolled in the Academy of Professional Celebrants to undergo a thorough and rigorous training programme to prepare me for my new vocation.
I now feel fully prepared to assist families in the process of arranging a funeral service and life tribute for their loved ones who have recently passed or for whom they wish to arrange a fitting memorial.

The ceremony I will prepare and deliver for your loved one will be the heart of the funeral and a fitting tribute that will clearly reflect the life, values and beliefs of the person who has died. It will recognise and give time to their community of family and friends”.

Life is a gift Life is an amazing journey Life comes full circle

When something ‘comes full circle’ it completes a cycle, returns to its beginnings: “A novelist’s vision of human life has come full circle — from optimism to pessimism and back to optimism again.” This is why it’s my pleasure ‘To Honour a Life’, for you and your loved ones.
